The Early Early YearsEveryone has to start somewhere. Ralph Steadman learnt his trade at the London Printing and Graphic Arts College. One of his teachers was Leslie Richardson who became a friend and mentor. He pushed Ralph to always look around himself at the world and find his way to express it.
Like many a student before and since he spent hours in the British Museum and Natural History Museum sketching, honing his craft and observing the truth of the objects he drew.
For anyone who has ever questioned Ralph's ability to draw purely, these sketches show the talent quite apart from the passion and vigour that was to define him in later years.
